This website contains information on Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands’ biodiversity, land cover and aquatic habitats, animal species occurrences, modeled distributions, natural history information, and areas protected for the conservation of natural resources. The information comes from a number of related projects that began with the Puerto Rico Terrestrial Gap Analysis Project. All have been developed through research at the USDA Forest Service International Institute of Tropical Forestry. The motto of the national GAP program is “Keeping common species common” and we hope this site serves as a resource for those interested in assessing and protecting the biodiversity of the region.
